Manila — The Supreme Court of the Philippines is currently investigating claims of a significant data breach reported on social media, as the judiciary prepares to implement a new rule mandating the digital submission of documents in lower courts.

According to Philippines News Agency, the court became aware of the allegations through a social media post and has tasked its Management and Information Systems Office (MISO) with verifying the details of the reported breach. "We learned of the social media post about the alleged data breach, and our MISO is currently validating it. Rest assured, the Court has invested in cybersecurity for its data and will continue to do so as we digitalize our processes," Ting communicated to journalists. She reassured the public that all court processes, including the upcoming online Bar exams scheduled for next month, are secure.

The social media claims suggest that the breach, which allegedly occurred on August 27, involved the exposure of highly sensitive legal data, including information related to the payment of legal fees, which is processed through a local bank. The Court is taking these allegations seriously, especially in light of the impending transition to more digital operations across its judiciary system.
