Kuala lumpur: Malaysia has developed a contingency plan to address potential haze issues during the 2027 Southeast Asian (SEA) Games, which the country is set to host, Deputy Youth and Sports Minister Mordi Bimol announced recently. The preparations for the games are reportedly on track with no significant obstacles.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Mordi emphasized that Malaysia is prepared for any haze that might coincide with the games. He mentioned this during a town hall session at the Sabah state-level of the 2026 Kembara Inspirasi Belia Akar Umbi (KIBAR) series 2 programme. The plan is designed to ensure that the games proceed smoothly even if haze conditions arise.

Mordi further assured that the development of sports facilities and accommodation for the SEA Games is advancing as scheduled, highlighting that there are no issues, particularly in Sarawak, one of the co-hosts. He noted that a trial programme will be conducted as a test for the sports facilities before the commencement of the 2027 SEA Games.

The KIBAR programme, held on the same day, aimed to connect with youths, especially those in rural areas, to understand their aspirations and encourage them to take advantage of government opportunities to improve their skills and income.
