Kuala lumpur: Malay unity is crucial to restoring the political strength and standing of the Malay community, while ensuring continued confidence from political partners in Sabah and Sarawak, said UMNO vice-president Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin. He emphasized that such unity is essential to ensuring that Malay political leadership continues to be respected by political allies in Sabah and Sarawak, thereby providing the Malays with the legitimacy to continue leading the country's administration.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Mohamed Khaled questioned the ability to manage Malay affairs effectively and how it impacts the confidence of partners in Sabah and Sarawak in Malaysia's government leadership. During the winding-up session of the 2026 UMNO General Assembly, he highlighted the risks of continued fragmentation and disunity among Malay political forces, which could undermine their standing as a political force and a capable governing entity.

He warned that these weaknesses could erode the Malay position and advantages in Peninsular Malaysia as the nation's development leaders. He also noted that Sabah and Sarawak are observing the situation and questioning whether Peninsular leaders should continue to have the advantage in steering Malaysia's progress.

Mohamed Khaled stressed the importance of Malay unity in restoring the confidence of Sabah and Sarawak that the Peninsula remains politically stable and capable of leading the country's development. He stated that the unity championed by UMNO is a commitment to strengthening the Malay community's position across generations and political ideologies.

He proposed that unity could be achieved through the concepts of Rumah Bangsa (House of the Nation), Musyawarah Nasional (National Consultation), and Tafahum Siyasi (Political Understanding) introduced by UMNO President Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi. Mohamed Khaled noted that through Tafahum Siyasi, Malays can unite without abandoning their identities and political ideologies, ensuring that Malay interests are championed and safeguarded.
