Kelantan: Claims under the Non-Work-Related Accident Scheme (LINDUNG 24 Jam) in Kelantan have quadrupled to 64 cases-up from 16-since the scheme was introduced in June.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Kelantan Social Security Organisation (SOCSO) director Wan Izani Wan Isa stated that this increase brings the total payout amount to RM66,691.96. He noted that the rise indicates a growing awareness among contributors regarding this protection, which covers accidents occurring outside of working hours-including risks that can arise at any time.

"As of August 31, payments have been made for 120 cases under the scheme, covering a variety of accident incidents. The cases we have received include accidents unrelated to employment, such as falling from a tree while pruning branches, or falling while engaging in sports, jogging, or fishing," he told reporters after the SOCSO Kelantan Media Engagement and Networking Session here last night.

He explained that as long as the injury is verified through a medical investigation and the contributor holds a medical certificate from any hospital or private clinic, they may submit a claim subject to the stipulated conditions. "The situation and pattern of claims in Kelantan do not necessarily mirror those in other states, as the types of accidents occurring are heavily influenced by the contributors' daily activities and living environments. Provided the incident meets the definition of a non-work-related accident and satisfies the established criteria, contributors can submit claims for SOCSO's assessment," he said.

He added that benefit payments under the scheme do not have a fixed overall limit; instead, they depend on the type of benefit as well as the nature and severity of the injury sustained by the contributor. "In the event of an accident resulting in the contributor's death, relevant benefits may be disbursed to eligible dependents or next-of-kin, including the surviving spouse and children. If there are no eligible primary beneficiaries, provisions also exist for subsequent beneficiaries-such as parents, grandparents, and siblings-subject to established eligibility criteria," he said.
