Quezon City: The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) has taken action by summoning Gabriel Go, head of the Special Operations Group - Strike Force, after an incident where he was seen berating a police officer who had been ticketed for parking on the sidewalk.

According to Philippines News Agency, MMDA Chair Romando Artes has acknowledged the incident, which was allegedly captured in a video posted online. Artes emphasized that the situation will be managed 'with full accountability' and reminded MMDA employees to treat the public with respect and courtesy, even when faced with aggression.

Artes highlighted that while MMDA personnel are dedicated, they are also human and can sometimes act out of zeal when enforcing traffic laws. He described Go as a 'dedicated enforcer' but assured that if the investigation concludes any wrongdoing, appropriate penalties will be applied following due process.

Artes stated that executing their duties is often challenging and frustrating, but such challenges do not justify any breach of policies or protocols. He urged that their commitment to public service should remain strong despite difficulties and negative public reactions.

A show cause order has been issued to Go, and Artes has called for an appropriate apology to be made to Police Captain Erik Felipe, the officer involved in the incident. Artes expressed regret for any inconvenience caused and noted that this will serve as a learning experience for both Go and the MMDA.

To address the situation further, Artes has reached out to officials from the Philippine National Police (PNP), the National Police Commission (NAPOLCOM), and the Quezon City Police District (QCPD). He affirmed that this isolated incident would not damage the strong relationship between their organizations and that they would continue to coordinate and cooperate with mutual respect.
