San Juan City, Philippines—Mapua University achieved a significant 71-65 victory over the University of Perpetual Help in a thrilling come-from-behind win on Sunday at the FilOil EcoOil Centre, propelling them to a share of second place in the NCAA Season 100 men’s basketball tournament.

According to Philippines News Agency, Clint Escamis led the charge for the Cardinals with a standout performance, scoring 28 points—including four three-pointers—which played a crucial role in securing the win and tying the team's record with their opponents at 2-1. This puts them on par with San Beda University and San Sebastian College, who also hold 2-1 records.

Escamis, the reigning Most Valuable Player, also contributed significantly on the defensive end, recording three steals, and added two rebounds, two assists, and a block. His efforts underscored a determined campaign to overcome last season's runner-up finish. Teammate Marc Cuenco supported with 12 points and six assists, while John Jabonete added eight points and five rebounds.

On the opposing side, Mark Gojo Cruz led the University of Perpetual Help with 17 points and seven rebounds. Teammates Christian Pagaran and Cedrick Abis each contributed 12 points.

In another match, Lyceum of the Philippines University rallied in the fourth quarter to defeat Jose Rizal University 97-92, marking their first win of the season. John Barba starred with a career-high 28 points, including five triples. His performance was complemented by Vincent Cunanan, who added 20 points, five steals, four assists, and two rebounds, helping the Pirates to mount a 36-20 run in the final quarter.

Jonathan Medina led the scoring for the Heavy Bombers with 22 points, along with six rebounds and three assists, but it wasn’t enough to avoid their third consecutive loss.

The next matchups see Perpetual facing the current leader, College of Saint Benilde, on September 18, while Mapua will take on Colegio de San Juan de Letran on September 20.
