Manila—Ateneo de Manila University ended De La Salle-Zobel's two-game winning streak with a 72-64 victory, while the University of Santo Tomas (UST) secured a commanding 91-67 win over Adamson in Season 87 of the UAAP juniors basketball tournament, both games held at Adamson University gym on Sunday.

According to the Philippines News Agency, standout player Zane Kallos led Ateneo with a remarkable performance of 22 points, 21 rebounds, and six assists. This victory establishes a three-way tie for second place at 2-1 between Ateneo, UST, and De La Salle-Zobel. UST's Tiger Cubs, meanwhile, displayed a strong offense in their matchup against the Adamson Baby Falcons.

Ateneo's recovery from a recent loss was marked by contributions from Sky Jazul, who scored 21 points along with nine rebounds, and teammates YJ Lacsamana and JD Juangco, who added 14 and 12 points, respectively. Ateneo’s coach Reggie Arumin praised his team's resilience, "When we lost to UST last Wednesday, you could feel during practice that they believed they had let something slip away. They were determined to get back on the winning track."

In a pivotal moment, Vince Magan of La Salle scored a three-pointer to lead 64-62 with just over two minutes left, but Ateneo rallied behind Kallos and Jazul to secure the win at 69-64. Coach Arumin expressed high expectations for 13-year-old Jazul, appreciating his demeanor and performance on the court.

For UST, Jhon Canapi shone with 32 points, eight rebounds, five assists, and three steals, supported by Andwele Cabanero’s 14 points and 11 assists. Adamson’s Chrys Gomez and Craig Fongtong contributed 16 points and 13 points with 16 rebounds, respectively, but the team faced its third consecutive defeat.
