Wroclaw: LG Energy Solution Ltd. (LGES), South Korea's prominent battery manufacturer, has announced a new contract to supply batteries for energy storage systems (ESSs) to be constructed in Poland starting next year.

According to Yonhap News Agency, LGES will provide lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries for a 1-gigawatt-hour (GWh) ESS facility that is scheduled to begin operations in 2027 by Polska Grupa Energetyczna (PGE), Poland's state-run utility firm. The LFP batteries will be manufactured at LGES's facility located in the southwestern city of Wroclaw, Poland.

The battery maker anticipates that this contract will pave the way for additional ESS battery agreements across Europe. In response to a slowdown in the sales of all-electric vehicles, LGES has adapted some of its production lines in the Wroclaw plant specifically for ESS battery production, reflecting the increasing demand for these systems.

LGES operates production facilities in several regions, including South Korea, Poland, Indonesia, and North America, positioning itself as a key player in the global battery market.
