ITM 2026 Reinforces Malaysia’s Global Leadership In Muslim-Friendly Tourism

Kuala lumpur: The 2026 Islamic Tourism Month (ITM) 2026, which falls this month, brings together a wide range of Muslim-friendly tourism offerings from industry players nationwide, further reinforcing Malaysia's position as a global leader in the segment.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the Islamic Tourism Centre (ITC) stated that the fifth edition of ITM aims to raise awareness of Muslim-friendly tourism while encouraging domestic and international tourists to explore the destinations, accommodation, products, and services available. Malaysia retained its position as the world's top Muslim-friendly tourism destination in the Global Muslim Travel Index (GMTI) 2026 for the 11th consecutive year.

ITC director-general Mohammad Faisal Abu Suaib Khan emphasized that ITM is not merely a promotional campaign but also serves as a platform connecting industry players, government agencies, and consumers to strengthen the Muslim-friendly tourism ecosystem. 'Through ITM 2026, we aim to expand access to a wide range of Muslim-friendly tourism products and services, creating more opportunities for micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) to enhance their visibility and expand their markets. At the same time, we want to reinforce the understanding that Muslim-friendly tourism offers a high-quality, comfortable, and inclusive travel experience that everyone can enjoy,' he said.

He further mentioned that ITM 2026 supports the aspirations of Visit Malaysia 2026-2027 and the Malaysia MADANI agenda to strengthen tourism as a driver of national economic growth. Since its inception in 2022, ITM has recorded consistent growth in sales and promotional value, increasing from RM2.59 million in 2024 to RM2.64 million in 2025.
