Quezon City: Far Eastern University clinched the first semifinal slot in the UAAP Season 87 men's volleyball tournament after outlasting University of the Philippines in a five-set thriller, 25-19, 25-21, 20-25, 29-31, 15-12, at the Smart Araneta Coliseum. The victory marked FEU's sixth consecutive Final Four appearance and their 12th straight win over UP, keeping them at the top of the standings with a 10-1 record.

According to Philippines News Agency, Dryx Saavedra was instrumental in FEU's success, scoring 29 points and reflecting on his readiness and maturity during the match. He emphasized the importance of being prepared for any situation, a mindset instilled by their coach. Saavedra's performance was complemented by Mikko Espartero's 16 points, along with contributions from Lirick Mendoza and Congolese middle blocker Doula Ndongala, who each added 15 points.

FEU's head coach, Eddieson Orcullo, commended his team's composure, particularly in the decisive fifth set. Despite UP leading at times, FEU's ability to stay connected and support each other proved crucial in securing the win. The Tamaraws are set to face Ateneo de Manila University on April 9 at Philsports Arena in Pasig.

On the opposing side, Olayemi Raheem led UP with 25 points, while rookie Tommy Castrodes contributed 17 points. However, the Fighting Maroons were eliminated from the semifinal race with a 3-8 record and will next compete against De La Salle University on April 13.

In another match, defending champion National University dominated Adamson University, winning 25-17, 25-16, 25-15, to maintain their second-place position with a 9-2 record. Michaelo Buddin and Leo Aringo were key players for NU, with Aringo excelling in receptions and digs. NU coach Dante Alinsunirin expressed satisfaction with his team's improved passing and side-out percentage, which enabled their strategic execution on the court. The Bulldogs aim to secure a Final Four spot with a victory over the University of the East Red Warriors on April 9.
