CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY — The number of reported animal bite cases in Cagayan de Oro has surged to 17,000 for the second quarter of the year, according to data from the City Health Office (CHO).

According to Philippines News Agency, health education promotion officer at the CHO, the office expects the number to increase further, with projections suggesting a total of 20,000 cases by the end of September based on current trends. In 2023, the city recorded a total of 22,000 animal bite cases. The CHO is currently awaiting a new supply of anti-rabies vaccines from the Department of Health, following the last delivery received in April. Meanwhile, efforts to control the stray animal population through neutering are being intensified by both the CHO and the City Veterinary Office.
