DAVAO - On the eighth anniversary of the Roxas Night Market bombing, Vice President Sara Z. Duterte has called on the residents of Davao to enhance their cooperation with law enforcement to bolster counterterrorism measures.

According to Philippines News Agency, during a memorial ceremony that included offerings of prayers, candles, and flowers, it is crucial for Dabawenyos to stand united and assist law enforcement in their efforts to combat terrorism. She emphasized the importance of vigilance and prompt reporting of any suspicious activities or objects to Task Force Davao, ensuring swift action against potential threats. "The information given will be immediately responded to by authorities and we can stop the people who have bad intentions in our city [terrorism]," she explained.

The tragic event on September 2, 2016, resulted in 17 deaths and over 60 injuries. In 2020, seven individuals were convicted of multiple murder and multiple attempted murder, receiving sentences of reclusion perpetua. The city continues to support the victims' families through monetary and educational assistance programs. The 2023 report from the City Social Welfare and Development Office indicates that 33 beneficiaries received educational assistance, with two having already graduated from college.
