Seoul: The Twins made a powerful statement in their opening game against the Giants at Jamsil Baseball Stadium, jumping on Giants starter Charlie Barnes for three runs in the bottom of the first inning. Kim Hyun-soo initiated the scoring with a double, and Austin Dean promptly followed with another double to bring him home.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the Twins extended their lead when Moon launched a 0-2 slider from Barnes for a two-run home run, marking the first home run of the KBO season and putting the Twins ahead 3-0. Barnes struggled further in the third inning, allowing two singles and a walk to load the bases, walking the No. 9 hitter Gu Bon-hyeok to push in another run.

With the bases still loaded, Barnes threw a wild pitch, allowing another run to score. Hong Chang-ki then hit a two-run double, increasing the Twins' lead to 7-0. Meanwhile, Twins' pitcher Chirinos kept the Giants scoreless through three innings before encountering difficulty in the fourth.

Chirinos allowed a double and two consecutive walks, loading the bases. Son Ho-young, who had been moved to No. 7 in the batting order due to spring training struggles, hit a single to score two runners, reducing the deficit to 7-2. Although Yoo Kang-nam's single loaded the bases again, Chirinos managed to escape further trouble with a strikeout and a pop out.

With Barnes exiting the game, the Twins added another run in the fourth inning, capitalizing on reliever Kim Gang-hyun's pitching. The Twins restored their seven-run lead in the fifth, thanks to a Giants error, where a potential inning-ending double play turned into a run-scoring play due to a misthrow by second baseman Go Seung-min.

The Twins solidified their victory by adding three more runs in the eighth inning, highlighted by Oh Ji-hwan's solo home run. Overall, the Twins outhit the Giants 15-7, with the Giants committing five walks and three errors.

After the fourth inning, Chirinos settled down and allowed just one more base runner over the next two innings. He held the Giants to two runs on five hits over six innings, striking out eight batters, all on his signature forkball. Chirinos threw a total of 103 pitches, mixing fastballs, forkballs, sliders, and four-seamers.
