ALBAY, CAMARINES SUR - Over 4,000 residents were evacuated from several areas in the provinces of Albay and Camarines Sur as persistent heavy rainfall induced by Tropical Depression Gener and the southwest monsoon, locally known as "habagat," led to widespread flooding. The Office of Civil Defense in Bicol (OCD-5) confirmed the evacuations on Tuesday, noting that flooding also affected nearby Sorsogon and Camarines Norte.

According to Philippines News Agency, the OCD-5 spokesperson, Gremil Alexis Naz, reported that 15 municipalities across the region had encountered 85 flooding events. He explained, "Our operation division is now coordinating with affected local disaster risk reduction and management offices (LDRRMOs)." The floodwaters have inundated communities in Polangui and Albay, including Baao, Bula, Calabanga, Magarao, Milaor, Minalabac, Nabua, Sipocot, San Fernando, and Pamplona in Camarines Sur; and Daet in Camarines Norte; alongside Donsol, Juban, and Magallanes in Sorsogon.

Evacuation efforts began on Sunday, with 1,017 families, totaling 4,397 individuals, currently housed in temporary shelters. OCD-5 has urged local government units to remain vigilant, especially those areas prone to flooding and landslides, to continue monitoring the situation and to enforce necessary safety measures.

Naz also noted that the flooding has impacted at least 15 local roads and bridges. Twelve of these are currently impassable to all types of vehicles, two can only accommodate light vehicles, and one remains open solely to light vehicles. The Department of Social Welfare and Development has also dispatched PHP1.129 million worth of family food packs and non-food items to support the displaced families.
