Manila: The Philippine National Police (PNP) on Thursday announced the deployment of 40,151 police officers nationwide as part of its 'Oplan Ligtas SumVac 2025' initiative. This campaign aims to ensure public safety during the Holy Week observances and secure the influx of travelers during the summer vacation period.

According to Philippines News Agency, PNP Chief Gen. Rommel Francisco Marbil has assured the public that the police force is fully prepared to maintain peace and order throughout the summer season. Marbil emphasized the importance of public cooperation in reporting suspicious activities to help make the summer safe and enjoyable for everyone.

The PNP has outlined operational guidelines for police units to ensure a peaceful environment for those traveling to provinces or tourist destinations for Holy Week and local festivities. The strategy includes intensified checkpoint operations and regular inspections at crowded areas such as bus terminals, seaports, airports, and other transport hubs.

The summer period in the Philippines sees an increase in travel as families take advantage of school breaks and long holidays. Several national events, including Philippine Veterans Week, Araw ng Kagitingan, Labor Day, and Flores de Mayo, coincide with this period, necessitating heightened police presence to prevent criminal activities.

The PNP is also addressing potential challenges such as traffic congestion, overcrowding in transport terminals, and the risk of burglaries with many homes left unattended. Additionally, the campaign coincides with the election campaign period, adding another layer of complexity to maintaining peace and order.

To tackle these challenges, the PNP will implement the Enhanced Managing Police Operations (E-MPO) Strategy, focusing on increased police visibility and coordination with government agencies and local units. Police Assistance Desks will be deployed in strategic locations to offer immediate public assistance.

Marbil also mentioned that road safety measures will be enforced in collaboration with traffic agencies to alleviate congestion and prevent accidents. The public is encouraged to secure their homes, be vigilant, and adhere to safety guidelines in crowded places. Emergency hotlines will remain active for immediate public assistance.

With these measures in place, the PNP is committed to ensuring that Filipinos can enjoy a safe and peaceful summer vacation period.
