Manila—The Philippine House of Representatives is set to commence plenary debates on the proposed P6.352 trillion national budget for 2025 on Monday. This marks a crucial step in the legislative process to support the government's developmental agenda.

According to the Philippines News Agency, the House has allocated eight days for these discussions, beginning at 10 a.m., with a goal to pass the budget by September 25. The debates will cover allocations for critical departments such as the Department of Public Works and Highways, the Office of the President, and Congress itself.

House Speaker Ferdinand Martin Romualdez lauded the House Committee on Appropriations for completing its hearings last week, which enables the move to more detailed discussions. He emphasized the budget's role in promoting the "prosperity and Bagong Pilipinas (New Philippines)" vision of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.

Romualdez outlined the budget's direct impact on poverty alleviation through social protection, financial aid, and medical programs, and its potential to maintain affordable food prices, notably rice, which has recently decreased to PHP 42 per kilo. He also highlighted the budget’s focus on enhancing agricultural and fishery productivity, which he argued would ensure an adequate food supply and lower prices, benefiting all Filipinos.

Moreover, the proposed budget aims to expand infrastructure and enhance education by funding the construction of more road networks and classrooms, setting a foundation for sustained economic growth and improved public services.
