Kuala lumpur: The Terengganu Department of Wildlife and National Parks (Perhilitan) successfully captured a wild male elephant that had been roaming in Kampung Kolam, Ajil, near here on Thursday.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Dennis Ten Choon Yung, the director of Perhilitan, stated that the elephant, with a paw print size of 15 inches (0.381 metres), was captured by a team of six Perhilitan members around 5.30 pm. The animal was tethered at the same location after its capture.

The department has arranged for the elephant to be fed banana trunks twice daily by staff members before it is relocated to a suitable location. The initial report of the elephant roaming in Kampung Kolam was received by the Hulu Terengganu Wildlife Department office on September 10. On the same day, a capture operation was conducted, resulting in the successful capture of the elephant.

The capture of the elephant aims to alleviate concerns among residents regarding the safety threat posed by the animal. Dennis Ten Choon Yung mentioned in a statement that the team reminds the public to avoid approaching the area to prevent causing stress to the elephant with noise.
