LUCENA CITY — The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has completed a PHP93.6 million road project aimed at alleviating traffic congestion on key national highways in Quezon Province. The project involved the concreting of a 1.22-kilometer section of the Quezon Industrial Highway located in Barangay Mayao Parada, Lucena City.

According to Philippines News Agency, engineer Evaresto C. Malones, the project was completed on schedule. "This road will facilitate easier and faster access between the agri-industrial zones of Batangas province and the agricultural lands of Quezon province," Malones stated during a phone interview on Friday.

The PHP93.6 million initiative was financed through the 2023 General Appropriations Act under the Convergence and Special Support Program-SIPAG-Access Roads and Bridges. The newly completed road segment is expected to significantly reduce traffic congestion on several major routes, including Daang Maharlika, Manila South Road Old Route, Quezon Eco-Tourism Road, and the Lucena-Dalahican Port Roads.

Malones further noted that the road improvement would enhance access for travelers and freight transportation moving to the islands of Mindoro Occidental, Mindoro Oriental, Marinduque, Romblon, and Palawan (Mimaropa) through the nearby Dalahican and Talao-Talao ports.

Additional road projects in the region are anticipated to be inaugurated by the end of the year, further improving transportation infrastructure in the area.
