NGCP Completes Amlan 69kV Line Reconductoring in Negros Oriental

Amlan: The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) announced the completion of the reconductoring of the 69kV line at its substation in Amlan, Negros Oriental. This development is expected to ensure the delivery of stable power to the areas served by the substation.

According to Philippines News Agency, Michelle Visera of NGCP-Visayas shared that the replacement of bigger transmission lines will prevent manual load dropping (MLD) during peak load times, particularly in Dumaguete City, which experiences the highest demand for power. Visera emphasized that, barring emergencies, MLD will no longer pose a problem for the Amlan 69kV line as it now has the capacity to supply more power through the Negros Oriental II Electric Cooperative (NORECO II).

The NGCP had scheduled power interruptions of up to 12 hours on February 16, March 9, March 22, and April 6 to facilitate the reconductoring project after the line was deemed 'critical'. The interruptions affected areas including San Jose, Sibulan, Dumaguete, Valencia, Bacong, Dauin, Zamboanguita, and Siaton.

To expedite the project before the May 12 national and local elections, the NGCP deployed teams from other provinces. Visera noted that the reconductoring is a temporary solution to meet power demands while NGCP continues to work on constructing a 138kV line connecting Amlan to the capital city. Progress on this project has been delayed due to negotiations with private property owners over right-of-way issues.

Visera also urged the public to avoid spreading unverified information on social media regarding power interruptions, as it can cause unnecessary public concern. She referred to a recent Facebook post mentioning a power interruption on April 20, 2026, from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m., which neither NGCP nor NORECO II announced, emphasizing that the year 2026 was a clear error. The public is encouraged to follow NGCP and NORECO II's official Facebook accounts for accurate updates.
