Manila: President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. on Monday expressed deep concern over the health of Pope Francis, following reports that the Holy Father is currently battling a serious illness. In a statement, Marcos joined the world in extending prayers for the pope.

According to Philippines News Agency, Marcos remarked, “Nakakalungkot na marinig ang malubhang karamdaman ni Pope Francis. Sa mga sandaling ito, ka-isa tayo ng buong mundo sa panalangin para sa kanyang kalakasan at paggaling (It is sad to hear of the serious illness of Pope Francis. In these moments, we join the whole world in prayer for his strength and recovery).” The President also shared words of encouragement for the 88-year-old pontiff, expressing hope for his continued guidance and strength from the Lord.

Pope Francis was admitted to the hospital on February 14 after experiencing breathing difficulties. Initially treated for bronchitis, he was later diagnosed with pneumonia in both lungs. Recent medical updates indicate that his blood values are improving due to transfusions. However, early signs of mild kidney failure have been detected, though they remain under control. “Pope Francis is alert and oxygen is still being administered. His blood values are improving, thanks to transfusions. There is an initial slight renal insufficiency,” the Vatican News posted.
