Kuala lumpur: The Malaysia Parliament Open Day 2026, taking place today and tomorrow, serves as a platform to bring the institution closer to the people, providing the public with an opportunity to see and understand the functions and processes in the 'house of democracy'. Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Dr Johari Abdul highlighted the public's interest in understanding the role of the institution, noting visitors have arrived as early as 7.30 am, including some from abroad.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the two-day programme coincides with the 67th anniversary of Parliament and National Month, featuring activities such as exhibitions, sales, sports competitions, pocket talks, film screenings by the National Film Development Corporation Malaysia (FINAS), and stage performances. Dewan Negara president Datuk Awang Bemee Awang Ali Basah, Dewan Negara Secretary Muhd Sujairi Abdullah, and Dewan Rakyat Secretary Dr Nizam Mydin Bacha Mydin were also present.

Chief Administrator of the Malaysia Parliament Datuk Dr Ahmad Husaini Abdul Rahman emphasized that the concept of 'bringing Parliament closer to the people' is founded on the principle that democratic institutions must always remain accessible. He stressed that public understanding of Parliament's functions is crucial, as the institution's strength depends on the people's appreciation and trust.

Visitor Athirah Amalin Ahmad Daud, 28, expressed that the visit allowed her to experience the institution's atmosphere and gain a closer understanding of its functions. Civil servant Daud shared her excitement about seeing Parliament in person rather than just on television. Amir Haikal Mohd Firdaus, 23, a student, echoed this sentiment and hoped that similar programmes would continue to offer more people the chance to connect with Parliament.
