Legazpi: The Legazpi city government has allocated PHP10 million for the establishment of a sports academy to enhance training facilities for athletes. In an interview on Thursday, Mayor Alfredo Garbin said the budget will be used to construct a multipurpose building to house sports equipment and serve as a training facility.
According to Philippines News Agency, the sports academy will focus on creating a structure and facility that supports athletes' training needs. Mayor Garbin emphasized that providing the best environment is essential for athletes to excel in their respective fields. He highlighted the importance of having facilities available throughout the year, ensuring that athletes can train effectively whenever needed.
The planned multipurpose building will not only serve as a hub for training facilities but also support mentorship programs and house sports equipment, including items already purchased by the city government. Garbin commended athletes for their achievements in the recently concluded Palarong Bicol 2025, where Legazpi City improved its gold medal count and ranking.
Furthermore, DepEd-5 Director Gilbert Sadsad expressed the need for each division to have a sports academy to properly train athletes for events like the Palarong Bicol. He cited the sports academy in Masbate province as an example of how improved training facilities can lead to success in sports competitions.
