Davao City: With temperatures soaring and the city's heat index reaching up to 39 degrees Celsius this week, the Davao City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) has urged residents to take precautions against heat-related illnesses. In a public advisory issued Thursday, the CDRRMO warned the extreme heat could lead to heat cramps, heat exhaustion, and even heat stroke if proper precautions are not taken.
According to Philippines News Agency, the City Health Office (CHO) also advised the public to stay hydrated, wear protective clothing, and limit sun exposure, particularly during peak hours. CHO head Dr. Tomas Miguel Ababon emphasized that vulnerable groups, such as young children and the elderly, should be given extra care.
'We should ensure their safety. As much as possible, they should not be exposed to direct sunlight for extended periods,' Ababon said in a statement. The CHO also issued first-aid guidelines for heat stroke, including moving the affected person to a cool area, removing excess clothing, and applying a cold compress to help lower body temperature.
