Manila: President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has appointed lawyer Noli Pipo as the newest commissioner of the Commission on Elections (Comelec). Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin confirmed Pipo’s appointment to the poll body in a text message to Palace reporters Monday. This follows the designation of Comelec law department chief Maria Norina Tangaro-Casingal as another new commissioner.

According to Philippines News Agency, Pipo, a seasoned election official, previously served as the regional director for Comelec in both Region 8 and Region 1. His appointment fills the vacancy left by Commissioner Marlon Casquejo, who retired earlier this month. Meanwhile, Casingal replaces Commissioner Socorro Inting, who also retired from the service.

The seven-member Comelec en banc is now complete following Pipo’s appointment. Comelec Chairperson George Garcia said Pipo will serve as Commissioner until Feb. 2, 2032. “He will take his oath (of office) on Wednesday,” the poll body chief said in a brief message.

Pipo previously served as Bangued, Abra Election Officer from 1993 to 1996, Ilocos Norte Provincial Election Supervisor from 1996 to 2004, and Comelec Ilocos assistant regional director from 2004 to 2006.
