MANILA—The Civil Service Commission (CSC) is set to launch a nationwide tree-growing initiative from September 15 to 21, 2024, to commemorate the 124th Philippine Civil Service Anniversary (PCSA), focusing on environmental conservation and support for families of deceased civil servants.
According to the Philippines News Agency, CSC Chairperson Karlo Nograles has urged government officials, employees, NGOs, and private sector workers to participate in the event. The initiative aims to plant at least 10,000 trees and raise funds for the Pamanang Lingkod Bayani (PLBi) Program, which assists the families of civil servants who have died in the line of duty. Nograles emphasized the week’s theme, “Linggo ng Malasakit sa Kalikasan,” highlighting the importance of sustainable environmental practices and natural resource management.
The CSC’s efforts will kick off in the Western Visayas, led by CSC Regional Office VI and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), with activities scheduled across various regions, including a significant tree-planting along the communities surrounding Laguna de Bay in partnership with the Laguna Lake Development Authority on September 16.
Details of the tree-growing activities in other regions will be made available on the official CSC Regional Offices’ Facebook pages and the PCSA microsite. Participants are encouraged to register through their nearest CSC Regional Office with a PHP 250 registration fee. Walk-ins may also be accommodated at the discretion of regional offices.
Participants will receive certificates of participation, and partner agencies will be acknowledged with certificates of appreciation. The event is part of a broader slate of activities planned for the PCSA, including medical missions, bloodletting drives, coastal clean-ups, and recognition programs for outstanding government workers and partners.
Nograles expressed enthusiasm for the upcoming event, stating, “As we celebrate another year of successful public service, we also need to remember the critical need to care for our planet. We are excited for the support of both the public and private sectors in our goal to promote environmentalism and patriotism.”
