CALOOCAN CITY — Residents of Barangay 176, also known as Barangay Bagong Silang in Caloocan City, have overwhelmingly approved the division of their barangay into six separate and independent barangays, following a plebiscite conducted by the Commission on Elections (Comelec).

According to Philippines News Agency, a total of 22,854 voters supported the proposal, while 2,584 opposed it. The plebiscite, which took place on Saturday, showed strong support among the local electorate for the restructuring. The country's most populous barangay will now be segmented into six new barangays, designated as Barangay 176-A, Barangay 176-B, Barangay 176-C, Barangay 176-D, Barangay 176-E, and Barangay 176-F.

The decision comes in response to Republic Act No. 11993, which was approved on April 3, 2024, mandating the division of Barangay 176 into independent villages to better manage its large population. Of the 86,153 registered voters in Barangay 176, 25,345 participated in the voting, marking a pivotal moment in the local governance of Caloocan City.
