New delhi: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi discussed deepening semiconductor cooperation and translating it into industry partnerships during their bilateral meeting here today. Anwar emphasized integrated supply chains, talent development, and two-way investment during the meeting, which took place on the sidelines of the 18th BRICS Leaders' Summit.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Anwar, who also serves as Malaysia's Finance Minister, reaffirmed the country's commitment to boosting bilateral trade and investment. He highlighted the importance of enhancing cooperation across various sectors and implementing measures to facilitate and expedite Malaysian exports to India.

The Prime Minister also explored opportunities for strengthening tourism and people-to-people ties through increased flight connectivity between the two nations. He expressed his appreciation for the warm welcome and reaffirmed the longstanding friendship between Malaysia and India.

Anwar arrived in India on Friday to attend the Summit hosted by Modi. This visit marks his second trip to India as Prime Minister, the first being in August 2024. Malaysia is participating in the summit in its capacity as a BRICS Partner Country, a status it has held since January 1, 2025.

The two countries have maintained long-standing relations since 1957, with their bilateral ties elevated to a comprehensive strategic partnership during Anwar's first visit to the republic. India remains Malaysia's largest trading partner in the South Asian region, with total trade between the two countries reaching RM79.49 billion (US$18.59 billion) in 2025.

Malaysia's key exports to India include palm oil and palm oil-based agricultural products, as well as electrical and electronic products. In return, Malaysia imports agricultural, petroleum, and chemical products from India.
