Antique: Residents of Antique should be ready at all times, especially since the province is prone to earthquakes.

According to Philippines News Agency, Antique Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Officer Broderick Train made the call following an earthquake that hit Myanmar and Thailand a week ago.

Train emphasized that Antique is susceptible to earthquakes as it is located along the West Panay Fault and the Tablas Fault System. He advised families to prepare a 'go bag' with food supplies sufficient for three days to sustain them while waiting for rescuers or response teams to arrive.

Building owners were urged to ensure their structures are built in safe zones and not along fault lines. Train stressed the importance of complying with building regulations set by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) and local government units (LGUs). DPWH and LGUs need to confirm that structures adhere to the National Building Code before issuing occupancy permits.

The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) is tasked with strictly enforcing fire safety regulations before granting fire safety certificates. Train also encouraged the public to participate in earthquake drills to become familiar with emergency procedures.

Antique has designated two evacuation areas, the Binirayan Sports Complex and the Camp Leandro Fullon in San Jose de Buenavista, to accommodate mass evacuations. The province was previously hit by one of Panay's strongest earthquakes, Lady Caycay, with a magnitude of 7.8 and an epicenter in Anini-y town in 1948.
