Seoul: Mike Dunleavy, the governor of Alaska, has embarked on a significant diplomatic mission to South Korea, engaging in discussions with top government officials and influential business leaders, according to a statement by the American Chamber of Commerce in Korea (AMCHAM). The governor's visit underscores efforts to bolster cooperation in energy and investment between Alaska and South Korea.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Governor Dunleavy's itinerary includes meetings with acting South Korean President Han Duck-soo, Industry Minister Ahn Duk-geun, and Joseph Yun, the acting U.S. ambassador to South Korea. These meetings are part of a two-day visit aimed at exploring avenues for enhancing economic collaboration.

Upon his arrival, Dunleavy met with Kim Dong-yeon, the governor of Gyeonggi Province, to discuss potential cooperation between their respective regions. The governor's agenda also features discussions with executives from major South Korean conglomerates such as SK, POSCO, and Hanwha, facilitated by AMCHAM.

The discussions are centered on strengthening partnerships in industries critical to both regions, including energy, infrastructure, and advanced manufacturing. AMCHAM expressed optimism that these talks will lead to expanded investment opportunities and improved supply chain cooperation, ultimately fostering sustainable economic ties between Alaska and South Korea.

Significantly, the delegation includes representatives from the Alaska liquefied natural gas (LNG) project partners, Glenfarne Group and the Alaska Gasline Development Corporation (AGDC), who are exploring prospects for enhanced energy collaboration.

"This visit demonstrates the shared commitment of the U.S. and Korea to build stronger economic ties and unlock new opportunities for collaboration," stated James Kim, chairman of AMCHAM.
