Manila: The Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp. (PAGCOR) has mandated the immediate removal of all billboards and out-of-home gambling advertisements. This directive is part of PAGCOR's strengthened efforts to manage gambling-related promotions in public spaces.
According to Philippines News Agency, PAGCOR issued a memorandum on July 7, instructing licensees, suppliers, system administrators, and gaming venue operators to dismantle gambling ad materials displayed on various public transport modes, such as trains, buses, jeepneys, and taxis. PAGCOR clarified that only institutional or responsible gaming campaigns, subject to its approval, will be allowed in the future.
PAGCOR chairperson and CEO Alejandro Tengco stated that all stakeholders must remove gambling-related advertisements by August 15. Additionally, an inventory of current billboard and wallscape advertisements must be submitted by July 16. This inventory should detail the size, material, location, rental contract expiration, and the corresponding permit number from the Ad Standards Council (ASC).
Tengco emphasized PAGCOR's dual role of regulating the gaming industry and generating revenues for nation-building, while also highlighting the importance of not fostering a culture of gambling addiction. He noted that regulating excessive gambling advertisements is crucial to safeguarding vulnerable societal sectors, particularly the youth.
PAGCOR also cautioned against replacing the removed advertisements with new gambling promotions, warning that any non-compliance will be addressed accordingly.
