Manila: Over 10,000 visitors logged in within the first hour of the launch of the Land Transportation Office's (LTO) online license renewal system through the eGovPH mobile application on Thursday. In a statement Friday, LTO Acting Assistant Secretary Greg Pua Jr. stated that the number of users reflects a significant shift in the realm of government services and transactions, highlighting a public preference for digital platforms.
According to Philippines News Agency, Pua remarked that the new system eliminates the need for clients to be physically absent from their jobs to complete LTO transactions, as these can now be conducted from any location across the country. This digitalization initiative aligns with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.'s directive to transition all government transactions to digital platforms.
The online system is designed to benefit not only local employees but also millions of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs), offering them convenience in managing their license renewals. To utilize the online driver's license renewal system (ODLRS), LTO clients must download and install the eGovPH app on their smartphones, accessible both in the Apple App Store and Google Play Store.
Applicants are provided the option to book a telemedicine appointment on the ODLRS portal to fulfill their medical examination and participate in the online Driver's Enhancement Program (DEP), both necessary for completing a license renewal with the LTO. Upon completion of the application and payment of fees, applicants receive an electronic driver's license via the eGovPH app.
Additionally, applicants can opt to have a physical card delivered to their chosen address or have it available for pickup at the nearest LTO district office.
