Ciron, Indonesian Triumph in IRONMAN 70.3 Subic

Subic: John Patrick Ciron beat seasoned rivals to rule the Century Tuna IRONMAN 70.3 Subic Bay in Zambales on Sunday. Ciron finished the 1.9km swim, 90km bike and 21km run race with a total time of 4 hours, 37 minutes and 28 seconds.

According to Philippines News Agency, veteran August Benedicto, the 2022 IRONMAN 70.3 Cebu champion, placed second in 4:40:58, followed by Mervin Santiago who clocked in at 4:42:40. Ciron, a native of Iriga City, Camarines Sur, expressed his determination during the race, especially during the second lap of the run where he pushed hard to maintain his lead. He completed the swim in 30:45, the bike segment in 2:33:21, and the running portion in 1:28:17. Ciron previously won the 2025 World Triathlon Development Regional Cup and National Championships in Vietnam in April.

In the women's division, Indonesian Dea Salsabila Putri claimed victory with a total time of 5:26:22, with split times of 27:44 for swimming, 03:10:21 for biking, and 01:41:07 for running. Erika Burgos finished second with a time of 5:32:30, followed closely by Nicole Andaya at 5:37:09. Benedicto and Burgos were also awarded the Bagong Bayani (New Hero) awards, a special elite category for current and former Filipino national athletes.

In the Sunrise Sprint event, featuring a 750m open-water swim, 20km bike ride, and 5km run, Darrell Bada emerged victorious with a time of 1:06:29. Dayshaun Ramos was a close second at 1:06:35, followed by Peter del Rosario at 1:10:02. The trio also dominated the top spots in the 15-19 age group. Katrina Salazar led the women's division with a time of 1:19:50, while Hanzel Barrameda and Mikaela Caruncho followed with times of 1:33:39 and 1:34:15, respectively. Salazar also won the 20-24 category, Barrameda dominated the 25-29 category, and Athena Gumaya topped the 15-19 category. Other notable winners included Daniel Cadavos in the 20-24 category and John Paul Daquioag in the 25-29 category.
