Beijing Rejects Trade Deals That Undermine China’s Interests

China: China expressed opposition to "any deal" agreed upon "at the expense of China's interests for so-called tariff relief," a Commerce Ministry spokesperson said Saturday. "If that happens, China will never accept it and will resolutely counter to safeguard its legitimate rights and interests," the spokesperson added.

According to Philippines News Agency, it comes after US President Donald Trump said Friday that Washington "can do whatever" it "wants" regarding the flexibility of the original deadline for a 90-day reprieve from the US tariffs set to expire on July 9. Trump also expressed his desire to notify parties by saying, "Congratulations, you're paying 25 percent."

The spokesperson noted that since April, Washington "has imposed the so-called 'reciprocal tariffs' on its global trading partners." This action, described as "a typical example of unilateral bullying," was said to have severely undermined the multilateral trading system and disrupted the normal international trade order. China has consistently opposed such actions.

Beijing extended an invitation for "all parties to resolve economic and trade differences with the US through equal consultations," urging everyone involved to "always stand on the side of fairness, justice, and historical correctness" and to "firmly uphold international economic and trade rules and the multilateral trading system."

Trump stated Thursday that the US signed a trade deal with China on Wednesday, though he did not disclose details. Beijing confirmed on Friday the details regarding the framework of implementing the Geneva trade talks consensus with the US.
