San jose de buenavista: Vice Governor Genevive Lim-Reyes is urging the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) to expedite the turnover of the Legislative Building, which has already been inaugurated on January 28, 2021.
According to Philippines News Agency, Reyes, during a press briefing on Thursday, requested the DPWH to hasten the turnover of the PHP50-million three-story building that it had funded and implemented through a contractor in San Jose de Buenavista. She mentioned that various repair works are necessary for the Legislative Building, but these cannot be initiated because the edifice has not yet been officially handed over to the Antique Provincial Government.
Reyes highlighted issues such as leaks in the roofing and a non-functional elevator, which poses a challenge particularly for senior citizens who need to meet with provincial board members on the second floor. She emphasized the difficulty faced by these individuals who must climb the staircase in the absence of a working elevator.
Former Vice Governor Edgar Denosta, in an interview on June 2, stated that he had previously written to the DPWH Regional Office 6 (Western Visayas) requesting that the contractor undertake the necessary repairs and that the building be turned over to the provincial government. However, there has been no response to his request.
Meanwhile, Reyes noted that all committee chairpersons for the 30 standing committees of the provincial board have already been appointed during the inaugural session on Monday. As Vice Governor, she will serve as an ex-officio member of all the committees.
