Kampala: The Ugandan parliament has approved the deployment of troops to the Gaza Strip as part of the International Stabilisation Force (ISF).

According to Nam News Network, during a session on Thursday, lawmakers gave the green light to a government motion to deploy a contingent of the Uganda Peoples Defence Force (UPDF). This deployment is aimed at bolstering security in the Gaza Strip, aligning with efforts spearheaded by US President Donald Trump to address the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas. Other nations, including Morocco, Indonesia, and Albania, have also committed to participating in this initiative.

Details regarding the commencement of the troop deployment remain undisclosed. However, in a move towards peace and stability, the Israeli Security Cabinet had previously granted authorisation for the ISF and representatives of the Palestinian Interim Administration to initiate work in a designated area in Rafah, located in the southern region of the Gaza Strip, by the end of July.

Despite a ceasefire being in effect since October 2025, sporadic deadly attacks continue to mar the Gaza conflict. Uganda, known for being a major contributor to peacekeeping missions in Africa, presently has its most significant overseas deployment underway in Somalia.
