THE 17th EXTRAORDINARY SESSION OF THE COUNCIL OF FOREIGN MINISTERS (CFM) OF THE ORGANISATION OF ISLAMIC COOPERATION (OIC) ON THE SITUATION IN AFGHANISTAN ISLAMABAD, PAKISTAN, 19 DECEMBER 2021

Foreign Minister YB Dato’ Sri Saifuddin Abdullah will lead Malaysia’s delegation to the 17th Extraordinary Session of the Council of Foreign Ministers (CFM) of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) on 19 December 2021 in Islamabad, Pakistan. The Extraordinary Session will be preceded by the OIC Senior Officials’ Meeting on 18 December 2021.

 

 

 

As the Chair of the Islamic Summit of OIC, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has called for the convening of the Extraordinary Session to discuss the humanitarian situation in Afghanistan. Pakistan has offered to host the meeting in Islamabad.

 

 

 

The Extraordinary Session will deliberate on ways to mitigate the impact of the humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan and mechanisms to ensure well-

 

coordinated assistance to the Afghan people. A Final Communiqué is expected to be adopted as an outcome of the meeting.

 

 

 

YB Foreign Minister is expected to deliver a national statement at the meeting. The statement will highlight among others, Malaysia’s resolve

 

to assist the humanitarian situation in Afghanistan and reaffirm support for a peaceful and lasting settlement in the interest of Afghanistan and her

 

people.

 

 

 

A meeting between YB Foreign Minister and his Pakistani counterpart has been scheduled prior to the Extraordinary Session, to allow both sides

 

discuss issues of mutual interest. YB Foreign Minister will also pay a courtesy call on the President and Prime Minister of Pakistan, respectively.

 

 

 

An Extraordinary Session of the OIC will be convened, whenever the interests of the Ummah warrant it, to consider matters of vital importance

 

to the Ummah. As a founding member of the OIC, Malaysia has actively participated in all OIC initiatives for the betterment of the Ummah.

 

 

 

The Extraordinary Session will be held following a strict COVID-19 Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), codified by the Governments of

 

Malaysia and Pakistan.
