SEOUL, SOUTH KOREA — President Yoon Suk Yeol is poised to unveil a comprehensive pension reform plan this week, designed to alleviate the financial pressures on younger generations and ensure the sustainability of the system, a source revealed on Sunday.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the reform aims to achieve generational fairness by reducing the financial load on the youth and adjusting contributions from older generations who are set to receive their pensions sooner. The plan includes mechanisms to maintain the pension fund's viability by modifying payments and benefits if the fund risks depletion. Notably, the reforms will expand benefits for conscripts and mothers, targeting relief for individuals in their 20s and 30s.

The Health Ministry is scheduled to release a detailed blueprint of these pension changes next month, following President Yoon's initial briefing expected after a key parliamentary house steering committee meeting this Tuesday. Alongside pension adjustments, President Yoon is also set to address ongoing reforms in other critical sectors including education and labor. Proposals include extending after-school education programs and enhancing support for temporary workers and those outside traditional labor unions.

Furthermore, the upcoming briefing is anticipated to cover medical reforms, focusing on directing major hospitals to prioritize critical patients and boosting support for healthcare workers in essential services.
