BOLINAO, PANGASINAN — Six fishermen from Bolinao, Pangasinan, who were at sea during Typhoon Enteng, have safely returned, though three others from the same region remain unaccounted for.
According to Philippines News Agency, head of Bolinao’s Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO), the six fishers ventured out from Barangay Balingasay, sailing 67 nautical miles from shore on Sunday, when the weather disturbance was still classified as a low-pressure area. "On the night of Sept. 2, three of the six fishermen were rescued by other fishermen and Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) personnel after they were found floating between La Union and Ilocos Sur," Calicdan reported. She explained that these men survived a boat capsizing, and initially, it was unclear what had become of their three companions from another boat.
The families of the three fishermen initially feared missing confirmed their safe return on Wednesday. MDRRMO personnel are currently assessing the health conditions of all the returned fishermen. However, the community remains anxious as three fishers from Barangay Lucero, who set sail on August 31, are still missing. These men were reported missing by their families after failing to return as expected on September 2. The missing fishermen have been identified as Coragel Carolino, 58; Ace Carolino, 32; and Ramon Fernandez, 58.
Pia Flores, assistant director of the Pangasinan Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office - Emergency Operations Center, said, "We have coordinated with the Philippine Coast Guard and the local disaster risk reduction and management office for the search and rescue operations." The storm, which has since exited the Philippine Area of Responsibility, prompted the evacuation of 26 families in Balungao town due to flooding, though no casualties were reported. Authorities across the province suspended classes at all educational levels on Wednesday.
Additionally, in La Union, evacuations were made during the storm, but most families have since returned home, except one whose residence was destroyed. The province also reported 19 incidents of landslides and flooding in several towns.
