Scared of soft power

North Korea publicly executed two teenagers in October for watching and distributing South Korean movies, trying and shooting them at an airfield in the northwestern city of Hyesan in front of a gathered crowd. The executions came a week after authorities announced a crackdown on “crimes” involving foreign media. North Korea has become increasingly spooked by cultural products smuggled in from China on USB flash drives and SD cards from more prosperous and democratic South Korea, which authorities view as decadent and anti-revolutionary.
