PH SPECIAL ENVOY CONVEYS PRESIDENT DUTERTE’S CONDOLENCES TO UAE LEADER

ABU DHABI 18 May 2022 — The Special Envoy designated by President Rodrigo Duterte, Climate Change Secretary Robert EA Borje, conveyed to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) President Mohammed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan President Duterte’s personal condolences and sympathies on the passing of his brother and predecessor Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan on 16 May 2022.

The Philippine Ambassador to the UAE Hjayceelyn M. Quintana and DFA Assistant Secretary for Middle East and African Affairs Alfonso Ver accompanied Secretary Borje in his call on the UAE President.

UAE President Mohammed Bin Zayed thanked Secretary Borje and asked him to convey to Pres. Duterte his warmest appreciation for the Philippines’ sincere expression of solidarity as the UAE mourns the passing of Sheikh Khalifa.

President Mohammed also said that robust relations between the Philippines and the UAE is founded on strong bonds of friendship between its peoples. Secretary Borje also took the opportunity to convey Philippines’ recognition of UAE’s leadership on renewable and greener energy in the context of climate change and invited the UAE to partner with the Philippines in this area.
