PH CONSUL GENERAL TO MACAU PAYS COURTESY CALL ON CHINESE FOREIGN AFFAIRS COMMISSIONER IN MACAU

MACAU 26 July 2021 – Philippine Consul General in Macau Special Administrative Region Porfirio M. Mayo, Jr. paid a courtesy call on Commissioner Liu Xianfa, Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China in the Macau Special Administrative Region on 23 July 2021 at the Office of the Commissioner.

During his call, Consul General Mayo affirmed the friendly relations between the Philippines and China and renewed the Consulate’s commitment to work closely with China and the Government of Macau SAR in the enhancement of economic cooperation, trade, investments, and people-to-people exchanges.

In their discussions, Consul General Mayo highlighted the contributions that Filipinos in Macau have made to the economic progress and cultural vibrancy of Macau and expressed hope that this will continue in the years ahead.

Consul General Mayo also emphasized that the protection of the rights and the promotion of the welfare of Filipinos living and working in Macau will be one of the central priorities of his tenure. He informed Commissioner Liu that the Consulate intends to actively engage Macau authorities on labor concerns. He expressed the hope that this cooperation will eventually result in the conclusion of a bilateral labor agreement between the Philippines and Macau.

Both officials also committed to work closely with each other on other matters of mutual concern.
