Ilocos norte: The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) in Ilocos Norte has suspended all sea travel in the province as a safety measure in response to moderate to rough seas caused by Tropical Depression Emong. This announcement was made by Lt. Joseph Christian Sagun, commander of the Coast Guard Station in Ilocos Norte, as the region remains on high alert due to the weather conditions.
According to Philippines News Agency, the suspension comes as Ilocos Norte is under Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1, as indicated in the 11 a.m. bulletin from the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA). The bulletin highlighted the potential for waves to reach up to 3 meters in the Kalayaan Islands and the northern seaboard of Ilocos Norte.
Mariners, particularly those operating small seacraft and motor bancas, have been advised to avoid venturing out to sea, especially if they lack experience or are using inadequately equipped vessels. Lt. Sagun emphasized that vessels already at sea should remain offshore in deep waters until further notice to ensure safety.
The PCG is maintaining close coordination with local government units and the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council as it continues to monitor the situation involving Tropical Depression Emong and Tropical Storm Dante. In light of these developments, government work and classes at all levels were suspended across the province on Wednesday.
