Park Dong-won Delivers Monumental Home Run in Korean Series Game 2

SEOUL - In a dramatic turn of events, LG Twins' catcher Park Dong-won hit the most significant home run of his career during Wednesday's Game 2 of the Korean Series against the KT Wiz. Park, a seasoned player with 134 regular season home runs over 14 years in the Korea Baseball Organization (KBO) and two postseason home runs prior to this series, delivered a game-changing two-run homer in the eighth inning at Jamsil Baseball Stadium, Seoul.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the team was trailing 4-3 and on the brink of falling two games behind in the best-of-seven series when Park stepped up to the plate. Facing reliever Park Yeong-hyun, he struck a first-pitch changeup, turning the game in favor of the Twins with a score of 5-4. This home run marked a pivotal moment in the series, overshadowing his previous 3-for-24 record in Korean Series appearances.

The game began unfavorably for the Twins, with starter Choi Won-tae retiring after facing only one batter and the team trailing by four runs after the first inning. However, the team's relief pitchers managed to hold off the KT Wiz, allowing the Twins to gradually reduce the deficit with runs in the third, sixth, and seventh innings. Park's two-run homer then completed this remarkable comeback.

Park, who had previously played in the 2014 and 2019 Korean Series without hitting a home run, reflected on his decision to swing rather than bunt during this crucial at-bat. His successful hit led to an outburst of celebration in the stands and the dugout, with the catcher noting the overwhelming support from the crowd of 23,750 fans, primarily Twins supporters.

Park expressed his gratitude towards the fans for their unwavering support, even after the challenging start to the game. He highlighted the impact of having such a large, supportive crowd, likening it to fighting alongside an additional 20,000 people.

The Twins, aiming for their first title since 1994, will look to build on this momentum in the upcoming games of the Korean Series.
