Nailga Eyes 3rd Straight Crown in ICTSI Jr PGT Mindanao Leg

Cagayan de oro: After winning the Del Monte leg, Alexis Nailga of Bukidnon is eyeing another title in the ICTSI Junior PGT Mindanao Series, which resumes Tuesday at Pueblo de Oro Golf and Country Club in Cagayan de Oro. Nailga prevailed over Clement Ordeneza in the battle of homegrown talents at Del Monte on Friday to claim his second consecutive title.

According to Philippines News Agency, Nailga, also the winner of the Visayas Series-Mactan leg last month, has earned 30 points to take the lead in the race for slots to the ICTSI North vs. South Elite Junior Finals at The Country Club in Laguna on Oct. 7 to 10. Under the structured JPGT format, the top four players from each division after the seven-leg regional series will qualify for the Vis-Min squad, which will square off against the Luzon series' best.

Aside from Ordeneza and Armand Copok, who placed third in Del Monte, also seeking to stop Nailga's title run are Martin Lu, Enrico Rosales, Fawzi Espinosa, Eric Jeon, Santi Asuncion, and Mhark Fernando III. In the girls' division, Bukidnon's Zero Plete seeks back-to-back titles, but will be tested by Gabie Rosca, Kenley Yu, and Mikela Guillermo. Other contenders include Ken Guillermo (boys' 11-14) and Jamie Barnes (boys' 7-10).

The Mindanao swing continues July 9 to 11 at South Pacific Golf Club and July 14 to 16 at Apo Golf and Country Club, both in Davao. The Visayas Series, which had its second and third legs canceled due to the Mount Kanlaon eruption, resumes on Sept. 15 to 17 at Negros Occidental Golf and Country Club in Bacolod City, followed by the Sept. 18 to 20 leg at Bacolod Golf and Country Club in Binitin, Murcia. The Luzon Series, on the other hand, will hold its last three legs at Riviera Golf and Country Club in Cavite (July 29 to 31), Pradera Verde in Lubao, Pampanga (Aug. 12 to 14), and Pinewoods Golf and Country Club in Baguio (Aug. 19 to 21).
