Manila Water Unveils PHP7.8-Billion Plant to Serve Rizal Province

MANILA — The Manila Water Company, Inc. announced the upcoming inauguration of its PHP7.8-billion East Bay Water Treatment Plant scheduled for December this year. This initiative is expected to enhance water supply to several towns in Rizal Province.

According to Philippines News Agency, the corporate communications manager for Manila Water Company, Inc., Phase 1 of the East Bay Water Treatment Plant in Pakil, Laguna is on track to commence operations by the projected deadline. Once operational, the new facility will begin serving the towns of Jalajala, Pililla, Baras, Cardona, Morong, and Binangonan in Rizal province. The treatment plant is designed to draw water from Laguna Lake and is anticipated to benefit approximately 390,000 residents.

The spokesperson highlighted that the East Bay project’s Phase 1 is on course for the December launch. The company also detailed that Phase 2, slated for completion in 2025, aims to supply Metro Manila’s East Zone, including parts of Pasig, Pateros, and Taguig, with essential running water.

Further developments of the East Bay project include constructing a reservoir, a pumping station, and extensive pipe-laying works. The water treatment process will involve reverse osmosis to render Laguna Lake’s water potable.

Moreover, Manila Water reported significant progress in its pipeline expansion, with over 5,418 kilometers of water pipelines maintained and operational across its East Zone service areas, marking an increase from the previous year and aiming to reach more consumers currently without service.
