Calgary: President Lee Jae-myung and Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese met in Canada and agreed to bolster security cooperation to promote peace on the Korean Peninsula and address North Korea's nuclear issue, the presidential office announced.According to Yonhap News Agency, this meeting marked the first in-person discussion between the two leaders and took place on the sidelines of the Group of Seven summit in Calgary. They also pledged to collaborate on hosting the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation forum in Gyeongju, South Korea, later this year.The presidential office emphasized that the leaders committed to ongoing communication and cooperation to achieve tangible progress on peace on the Korean Peninsula and North Korea's nuclear issue. During the talks, President Lee referred to Australia as "a trusted ally" due to its participation in the Korean War and its role as a key partner in promoting regional and international stability and prosperity.Prime Minister Albanese expressed his desire for the two countries to deepen cooperation in various sectors, including defense, the arms industry, clean energy, and supply chains for critical minerals.
