Oakmont: South Korea’s Kim Si-woo has fallen out of contention at the third major tournament of the PGA Tour season. Kim shot his second straight four-over 74 in the third round of the U.S. Open at Oakmont Country Club in Oakmont, western Pennsylvania, on Saturday (local time), dropping from a tie for eighth to a tie for 29th at six-over for the tournament.
According to Yonhap News Agency, Kim picked up two birdies, four bogeys, and one double bogey-his first of the week-and now sits 10 strokes behind the leader, Sam Burns of the United States. Only four players are under par through 54 holes at the brutally difficult par-70 course, which played at 7,331 yards on Saturday.
Kim recorded his first career top-10 finish at a major at the PGA Championship last month. Kim is three strokes outside the top 10 entering the final round at Oakmont. Kim three-putted for a double bogey on the par-4 third hole and dropped another shot with a bogey on the fifth hole after putting his second shot in a bunker.
Kim bounced
back with a birdie on the 210-yard, par-3 sixth, only to give it right back with a bogey on the eighth hole. Kim then had a birdie against two bogeys on the back nine.
Two other South Koreans made the cut. Tom Kim is tied for 35th at seven-over shooting 72 in the third round. Im Sung-jae is in a two-way tie for 54th at 11-over following a 76 on Saturday.
