Comelec Considers Reopening Filing Period for Bangsamoro Parliamentary Elections

Manila: The Commission on Elections (Comelec) is contemplating the reopening of the filing period for nominees of Regional Parliament Political Parties (RPPPs) ahead of the Bangsamoro Parliamentary Elections (BPE) scheduled on October 13. This initiative is being considered to allow political parties to submit updated and accurate lists of nominees.

According to Philippines News Agency, Comelec Chairperson George Garcia indicated that some RPPPs have requested the reopening of the filing period. These parties aim to revise their nominee lists to reflect recent changes, such as departures or participation in local elections. Garcia mentioned in a recent interview that the Comelec may deliberate on this request and potentially allow a renewed submission of nominees.

The initial filing period for the BPE took place from November 4 to 9 last year. Garcia noted that since then, some nominees have either exited their parties or opted to run in local elections. RPPPs are required to nominate 40 individuals for the BPE, with each group having the potential to secure a maximum of 40 seats in the Bangsamoro parliament, contingent on the election results.
