Antique prov’l board probes delay in salary of contractual workers

SAN JOSE DE BUENAVISTA: The Antique provincial board will investigate to determine the reason for the delay in wages of around 800 contract of service (COS) workers of the provincial government.

In a privilege speech during their regular session on Monday, Board Member Rony Molina said his office received numerous complaints about the delay in payment of their salary since January this year.

‘Recently, the employees employed by the provincial government have faced financial difficulties as a consequence of delayed salary payments,’ Molina said.

He added that the contractual workers have no choice but to apply for loans using their automated teller machine (ATM) cards as collateral.

‘The healthcare professionals, in particular, express their dissatisfaction with the fact that they have dedicated themselves to caring for patients during the graveyard shift, working tirelessly for 12 hours a day,’ he said.

Molina said the chairpersons of the committees on labor, civil service, and good governance will conve
ne for a hearing inviting the provincial treasurer, accountant, and other concerned offices to shed light on the delay of the salaries.

‘If I could have my way, I would like for us to meet as soon as possible so that we would know what really causes the delay in the release of the salaries,’ he said.
