Vietnamese, Lao Party commissions strengthen cooperation

Truong Thi Mai, Politburo member and permanent member of the Party Central Committee’s Secretariat, met with Thongsavanh Phomvihane, member of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party (LPRP) Central Committee and head of its Commission for External Relations, in Hanoi on April 20.

Mai congratulated Thongsavanh Phomvihane on being conferred the second-class Independence Order by the Vietnamese President, and lauded significant contributions of the Lao Commission for External Relations to achievements that Laos has recorded.

The host also emphasised the advisory role of the two Commissions for External Relations to the Communist Party of Vietnam and the LPRP in terms of foreign policies and cooperation between the two Parties and countries in all areas and in the international arena.

She suggested the two sides carry forward their role, closely coordinate with each other, step up the exchange of information and experience, and accelerate the implementation of high-level agreements.

In reply, Thongsavanh Phomvihane noted his hope that the two sides will enhance the sharing of experience in Party building, and affirmed that Laos always gives the top priority to Vietnam in its foreign policy.

Noting with pleasure the intensive and extensive development of the special solidarity between the two countries, the official used the occasion to thank Vietnam for its great support to Laos in the past struggle for national liberation as well as the present cause of reform.

Thongsavanh Phomvihane briefed Mai on cooperation outcomes between the two Commissions for External Relations as well as their collaboration orientations in the coming time.

He pledged to closely coordinate with the Vietnamese side in materialising agreements reached by the two commissions as well as senior Party leaders, thus contributing to promoting the Vietnam-Laos special solidarity intensively, effectively and substantively in all fields.

Ministry, JICA Discuss Legal and Judicial Cooperation

The Ministry of Justice and the Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA) have discussed more cooperation on legal and judicial sector.

The discussion took place here in Phnom Penh on April 19 between H.E. Koeut Rith, Minister of Justice and Mr. SANUI Kazumasa, newly appointed Chief Representative of JICA Cambodia Office.

H.E. Koeut Rith welcomed Mr. SANUI Kazumasa for his new role and wished him a successful mission in Cambodia.

Both sides discussed the progress of legal and justice development project phase 6 and the strengthening and expanding of the cooperation on legal and justice sector between the two countries and peoples.

JICA also pledged to help develop Cambodia’s human resources in justice.

GOVT FIRM IN REJECTING MISDEEDS, RESTORING COUNTRY’S DIGNITY – ANWAR

The Unity Government under the leadership of Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim remains firm in terms of governance to restore the dignity and integrity of the country by rejecting any misdeeds, corruption and misappropriation.

The Prime Minister emphasised this so that the fate of Malaysians will be secured and their dignity redeemed.

“Any country that wants to progress must be based on trust, values, kindness and mercy.

“This is cultivated but what is integral in all of this that becomes the axis is the sanctity of our soul, desire to bring changes by establishing principles of discipline and grace which we go through during Ramadan,” he said in his Hari Raya Aidilfitri 2023/1444H message which was aired on local television channels tonight.

Anwar also called on Malaysians to use the Aidilfitri celebration to forge friendships and brotherhood, make visits and be more compassionate.

“To everyone, especially Muslims, I wish you Selamat Aidilfitri Mubarak. May the completion of our fast allow us to reach the required level of faith. This way, we are guaranteed to return to a pure and wholesome situation,” he said.

Anwar urged the people to ensure the sacrifices, sincerity and discipline reflected during Ramadan become assets to guarantee the well-being of their families, society and the nation.

The Prime Minister also expressed his appreciation and thanks to all civil servants in the country and abroad who have served tirelessly, including the defence forces which maintained security and uplift the country’s dignity.

He hoped their efforts and services would continue to inject new strength into the country.

“On behalf of Azizah (Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail) and our family, I wish all Muslims and Malaysians a happy Eid Mubarak,” he said.

MODERATE EARTHQUAKE JOLTS NORTHERN MALUKU SEA, INDONESIA

A moderate earthquake measuring 5.9 on the Richter scale was detected in the northern Maluku Sea, Indonesia, at 6.21 pm today.

The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) said in a statement today that the earthquake occurred 161 kilometres (km) south of Talaud Island, Indonesia, at a depth of 80km.

However, it posed no tsunami threat to Malaysia.

Study on Cambodia’s Agricultural Potential for Export to France Encouraged

Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries has urged France to conduct a study on Cambodia’s agriculture potential and to work together to exchange export-import of agricultural products between the two countries.

The minister H.E. Dith Tina made the point in a meeting here in Phnom Penh on Wednesday with Mr. Bertrand Ambroise, Director of International Relations at Rungis International Market.

H.E. Dith Tina encouraged the establishment of a market of Cambodian agricultural products that meets the need and standard of France.

The minister also recommended necessary human resource development to do the work and a working group to monitor bilateral trade strategy and the product value chain.
